Brazil’s vehicle production slipped 1.1% month-over-month in September 2026, to 268,300 units, after a 6.8% increase in August. Passenger car output fell 2.8% to 209,000 units, while production of light commercial vehicles rose 8.6% to 46,200 units. Truck manufacturing edged down 1.3% to 11,600 units, and bus output dropped sharply by 23.2% to 1,400 units.
Despite the monthly setback, overall production for the month reached its highest September level since 2014, up 10.2% year-on-year. Over the first nine months of 2026, vehicle output increased 8.7% compared with the same period in 2025, approaching 2.2 million units. However, of the 173,000 additional vehicles produced relative to last year, only 50,000 were fully manufactured in Brazil; the remainder were assembled from SKD and CKD kits.
