Greece’s annual inflation rate accelerated to 5.0% in September 2026, up from 3.8% in August, reaching its highest level in four months. The increase was driven by faster price growth in several categories: housing and utilities (14.7% vs 9.7% in August), transportation (11.3% vs 7.7%), recreation and culture (1.6% vs 1.2%), education (2.9% vs 2.8%), furnishings and household equipment (0.6% vs 0.3%), restaurants and hotels (6.9% vs 6.0%), insurance and financial services (3.5% vs 3.4%), and miscellaneous goods and services (1.5% vs 0.7%).
In addition, prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco were unchanged after a 0.6% decline in the previous month, while the decrease in information and communication costs moderated (-1.9% vs -2.6%). By contrast, price growth slowed notably for clothing and footwear (0.3% vs 5.3%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 2.1% in September, following a 0.4% increase in August.
