Mozambique’s annual inflation rate slowed for the third consecutive month, easing to 6.31% in September 2026 from 6.45% in August and reaching its lowest level since April. The deceleration was mainly driven by softer price increases in several categories: food and non-alcoholic beverages (8.69% vs 8.91%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (3.73% vs 4.33%), recreation and culture (3.65% vs 4.86%), and miscellaneous goods and services (2.43% vs 3.48%).
On a monthly basis, the consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.16%, following a 0.28% decline in the previous month. The largest price increases were recorded for onions (11.4%), corn kernels (10.4%), second-hand light motor vehicles (3.9%), and hamburgers, steaks, pork sandwiches and similar products (2.5%). More moderate increases were seen for mackerel and beer consumed outside the home (both up 0.8%), as well as for cement (up 0.5%).
