Senegal Inflation Rate Eases to 1% in September

Senegal’s annual inflation rate eased to 1.0% in September 2026, down from August’s three-month high of 1.2%. The slowdown was mainly driven by a deceleration in food and non-alcoholic beverages inflation, the largest component of the consumer basket, which fell to 0.9% from a four-month high of 1.4% in August.

Price growth also moderated in several other categories: transport (1.2% vs 1.7% in August), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (12.0% vs 12.6%), restaurants and hotels (1.8% vs 2.2%), and financial services (1.0% vs 1.1%).

Inflation remained unchanged for recreation, sports and culture (0.8%), education (1.0%), and clothing and footwear (1.1%). In contrast, furnishings inflation edged up (0.7% vs 0.6%), while housing and utilities returned to positive territory (0.1% vs -0.9%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 1.1% in September, down from a 2.0% increase in August, when monthly inflation reached its highest level since July 2023.
