US stock futures were mixed on Tuesday as investors braced for a wave of major bank earnings that could set the tone for the third-quarter reporting season. Futures tied to the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 slipped 0.1% and 0.2%, respectively, while Dow futures inched up 0.05%.
JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup and Wells Fargo are scheduled to release their latest quarterly results today, alongside updates from other blue chips including Johnson & Johnson and UnitedHealth. Investors will also parse existing home sales data and comments from Federal Reserve officials Christopher Waller, Tom Barkin and Susan Collins.
These catalysts arrive ahead of Wednesday’s September inflation report, a key input for the Fed’s next policy decision. In Monday’s regular trading session, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite dipped 0.06% and 0.44%, respectively, weighed down by a selloff in memory chip stocks, while the Dow rose 0.38%.
