Japan 10-Year Yield Hits Near 3-Week Low

Japan’s 10-year government bond yield fell toward 3% on Tuesday, its lowest level in nearly three weeks, mirroring a broader pullback in global bond yields as the recent government debt selloff lost momentum. The move came as investors digested data showing that Japan’s producer prices rose 6.8% in September, below market expectations of 7.6% and the slowest increase since May.

Despite the downside surprise, the data underscored lingering inflationary pressures and reinforced expectations of a possible interest rate hike in the near term. Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda noted that the timing and pace of future rate increases will depend on how higher wholesale prices feed through to consumer inflation and how that, in turn, affects household spending.

Nonetheless, uncertainty persists over whether the central bank will move again this month, even as markets continue to price in the possibility of another rate hike in December or January.
