Sensex Closes on Higher Note

India’s BSE Sensex extended its advance on Tuesday, closing about 1.5% higher at 73,034 and recouping the previous session’s losses. The rebound was driven primarily by strong gains in information technology stocks and supported by a decline in crude oil prices. Market sentiment was further bolstered by recent Reserve Bank of India (RBI) measures aimed at easing pressure on the rupee.

The IT sector led the rally, logging its best performance since May 2025. Software exporter HCLTech surged 8.3% after posting earnings that beat expectations, while TCS, which released its quarterly results last week, climbed 6.6%. Tech Mahindra and Infosys also advanced, rising 4.9% and 4.4%, respectively.

Among the other major gainers were Hindustan Unilever (+2.9%), Trent (+2.6%), Bajaj Finserv (+2.4%), Bajaj Finance (+2.3%), Titan (+1.7%), M&M (+1.7%) and BEL (+1.7%). On the downside, only a handful of stocks traded lower, including Kotak Mahindra Bank (-0.9%), Eternal (-0.6%) and Maruti (-0.6%).
