TSX Edges Higher as Bond Yields Stabilize

The S&P/TSX Composite Index inched above 35,500 on Tuesday as bond yields steadied. Oil prices paused their rebound after US President Trump indicated Russia could resume diesel exports to the United States, a development that lent support to credit-sensitive sectors such as banking. RBC added more than 0.5%, while TD Bank, BMO, Scotiabank, and CIBC each advanced about 1%.

Energy producers climbed despite the pause in crude’s rally, supported by still-elevated prices. Canadian Natural, Suncor, and Imperial Oil each gained roughly 3%. In contrast, gold prices retraced earlier gains, weighing on miners: Agnico Eagle, Barrick, and WPM each slipped about 1%.

In corporate news, CSG disclosed it had acquired a 9.5% stake in MDA Space, becoming its largest shareholder; MDA shares were little changed on the day. In technology, Shopify rallied 4% and Constellation Software rose 3.5%, tracking strength in US hyperscalers and other software names, while Celestica fell 7% in line with broader weakness among chipmakers.
