Indonesian Equities Under Strain

Indonesia’s IDX Composite fell 66 points, or 1.1%, to 5,876 in early Thursday trading, erasing the previous session’s modest gains as risk sentiment deteriorated amid a global equity selloff. Chip-related shares tumbled, while faster-than-expected U.S. inflation data heightened concerns over further interest rate hikes, putting additional pressure on Asian markets.

Domestically, caution deepened ahead of MSCI’s November review of Indonesian equities, and sentiment was further weighed down after the exchange added 19 companies to its High Shareholding Concentration list. Even so, the downside was partly limited by the IMF’s decision to lift its 2026 growth forecast for Indonesia to 5.1% from 5.0%, citing support for household purchasing power and stronger government spending toward the end of the year.

All sectors traded in negative territory, led by energy, basic materials, transportation, and property. Among notable laggards were Indokripto Koin Semesta (-10.0%), Gojek Tokopedia (-7.1%), Mitra Adiperkasa (-6.4%), and Impack Pratama Industri (-5.5%).
