FX.co ★ Romania Current Account Deficit Sets Fresh Record

Romania’s current account deficit widened to EUR 3.32 billion in August 2026, up from EUR 2.99 billion in the same month a year earlier, marking a new record high after July’s previous peak. The goods account deficit expanded to EUR 3.10 billion from EUR 2.61 billion, and the primary income gap increased slightly to EUR 1.69 billion from EUR 1.60 billion.

These deteriorations were partly offset by stronger balances in other components. The services account surplus rose to EUR 0.99 billion from EUR 0.80 billion, while the secondary income account shifted from a deficit of EUR 0.03 billion to a surplus of EUR 0.03 billion.

Over the January–August period, the current account deficit reached EUR 19.93 billion, compared with EUR 18.98 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year.
