US Core PPI (Ex. Food, Energy & Transport) Accelerates to 0.5% in September

The U.S. Producer Price Index excluding food, energy and transport rose 0.5% month-over-month in September 2026, an acceleration from the 0.3% increase recorded in August 2026. The data, updated on 15 October 2026, highlight a pickup in underlying producer price pressures outside of the most volatile components.

On a month-over-month basis, the latest reading shows that core producer prices are rising at a faster pace than in the prior month, suggesting that pipeline inflation in more stable categories of goods and services is strengthening. The “previous” figure of 0.3% reflected the change in August compared with July, while the “actual” 0.5% captures the change in September relative to August.

Market participants and policymakers often monitor this core PPI measure to gauge underlying cost dynamics in the production sector. The September uptick may factor into assessments of how persistent underlying inflation pressures are, even when volatile sectors like food, energy and transport are stripped out.
