Austria’s annual inflation rate accelerated to 3.6% in September 2026, up from 3.2% in August, confirming the flash estimate. Inflation also picked up for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (2.4% vs. 2.0%), food and non-alcoholic beverages (0.4% vs. 0.3%), and furnishings and household equipment (1.0% vs. 0.4%).

By contrast, price pressures eased in health (3.6% vs. 4.4%), recreation, sport and culture (2.1% vs. 2.5%), education (4.0% vs. 4.9%), and restaurants and accommodation services (4.1% vs. 4.7%). Clothing and footwear prices fell by 1.4%, following a 1.3% drop in August, while the decline in information and communication prices moderated to 0.2% from 0.6%.
