Malaysia September Export Growth Hits Over 5-Year High

Malaysia’s exports surged 54.5% year-on-year to a record MYR 215.1 billion in September 2026, up from 45.5% in August and marking the strongest growth since April 2021. The expansion was driven primarily by manufactured goods, which jumped 58.6% and made up 89.1% of total exports, led in particular by electrical and electronic products, up 69.2%.

Exports of mining products also recorded strong growth, climbing 56.3%. This was supported by higher shipments of tin (130.2%), crude petroleum (68.9%), metalliferous ores and metal scrap (68.3%), condensates and other petroleum oils (51.2%), and liquefied natural gas (45.7%).

In contrast, agricultural exports fell 5.7%, weighed down by lower exports of palm oil and palm-based products (-9.1%) and sawlogs (-29.6%).

Exports to all ten of Malaysia’s major markets increased, with particularly sharp gains to Taiwan (175.2%), the United States (89.9%), Singapore (50.4%), the European Union (35.3%), and China (22.1%).

For the January–September period, total exports reached MYR 1,571.3 billion, an increase of 34.0% compared with the same period a year earlier.
