Taiwan’s Export Orders Growth Cools Sharply in September, Raising External Demand Concerns

Taiwan’s export orders growth slowed markedly in September 2026, signaling a potential softening in global demand for the island’s high-tech and manufactured goods. Year-over-year, export orders rose 62.4% in September, down from a robust 71.4% annual gain recorded in August 2026, according to data updated on 20 October 2026.

The figures show that while export orders remain elevated compared with the same month a year earlier, the momentum has eased as the pace of growth decelerates. The comparison is based on year-over-year changes, with the “previous” figure reflecting August 2026 versus August 2025, and the “current” figure reflecting September 2026 versus September 2025.

The moderation in export order growth could be an early indication that the strong external demand that has supported Taiwan’s export-driven economy is beginning to normalize, potentially affecting future production, investment, and trade performance in the coming months.
