Luxembourg’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 6.5% in September 2026, its highest level since July 2020, up from 6.4% in August and 6.1% in September 2025. The number of unemployed increased by 82 to 20,889, with the rise particularly marked among highly qualified job seekers, whose numbers grew by 10.6% year-on-year, though this was slower than the 19% increase recorded in August. The most affected age group were 16- to 29-year-olds, with unemployment in this segment up by 10.7%, while those aged 45 to 64 were considerably less impacted, recording a 7.6% increase. Total employment expanded by 130 to 322,936, while the labour force grew by 212 to 323,825. In terms of cross-border employment, incoming cross-border workers increased by 513 to 236,204, while the number of resident workers commuting abroad rose by 29 to 15,581.
