Canada’s Industrial Product Prices Accelerate in September, Signaling Rising Cost Pressures

Canada’s Industrial Product Price Index (IPPI) strengthened in September 2026, underscoring mounting cost pressures at the factory gate. The year-over-year indicator rose to 14.5% in September, up from 13.5% in August 2026, according to data updated on 22 October 2026.

On a year-over-year comparison basis, the IPPI measures how prices received by domestic manufacturers for their products have changed relative to the same month a year earlier. The latest figures show that the pace of producer price inflation continued to intensify as summer turned to autumn, with September’s reading exceeding the already elevated August level.

The previous indicator, reported for August 2026, reflected a 13.5% increase versus August a year earlier, while the current 14.5% figure for September 2026 reflects the change compared with September of the prior year. The acceleration suggests that input and output price pressures remain a key factor to watch for Canada’s broader inflation outlook and for corporate margins in the manufacturing sector.
