The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which measures shipping rates for vessels carrying dry bulk commodities, ended a four-day winning streak on Friday, slipping 1.2% to 2,660 points. The panamax index, reflecting ships that typically transport 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, fell around 2% to 2,109 points, its lowest level since August 24. The capesize index, tracking vessels that usually carry about 150,000 tons of cargo such as iron ore and coal, also broke its four-day advance, declining 1.5% to 3,791 points. Among smaller vessels, the supramax index edged down 0.2% to 1,887 points. Despite the daily pullback, the benchmark index gained approximately 5.9% over the week, marking a second straight weekly increase, largely driven by strength in the larger vessel segments.
