Hong Kong’s trade deficit narrowed to HK$46.3 billion in September 2026 from HK$50.2 billion a year earlier, the smallest shortfall since May. Exports jumped 64.9% year-on-year to a record HK$762.6 billion, driven chiefly by robust growth in electrical machinery, apparatus and appliances, and electrical parts thereof (up 66.2%), as well as office machines and automatic data processing machines (up 183.7%).
Exports to Asia rose 67.5%, while shipments to other major markets, notably Mexico (up 148.1%) and the United States (up 133.4%), also recorded strong increases.
Imports grew 57.8% year-on-year to an all-time high of HK$808.9 billion, largely reflecting greater purchases of electrical machinery, apparatus and appliances, and electrical parts thereof (up 64.5%), together with office machines and automatic data processing machines (up 142%). Imports from Mainland China (up 55.6%) and South Korea (up 231.1%) were particularly buoyant.
Over the first nine months of 2026, Hong Kong’s cumulative trade deficit reached HK$417.7 billion.
