Italian Producer Prices Accelerate to 13.8% YoY in September, Up Sharply from August

Italy’s Producer Price Index (PPI) rose 13.8% year-over-year in September 2026, accelerating from a 10.9% annual increase recorded in August 2026, according to data updated on 28 October 2026. The figures highlight a notable strengthening in producer-level inflation pressures compared with the same period a year earlier.

On a year-over-year basis, the “actual” September reading reflects the change in prices received by producers in September 2026 versus September 2025, while the “previous” August figure captures the change from August 2026 against August 2025. The step-up from 10.9% to 13.8% suggests that cost pressures within Italy’s production sector have intensified as the third quarter drew to a close.

The pick-up in PPI is closely watched by markets and policymakers as an early signal of potential future movements in consumer inflation, given that higher producer costs can pass through to end prices over time. Investors and analysts will now be monitoring subsequent releases to assess whether September’s acceleration marks the start of a more persistent trend in Italian producer price inflation.
