Sensex Finishes Higher

India’s BSE Sensex closed 0.4% higher at 74,459.5 on Friday, extending the previous session’s gains, as resilient corporate earnings and strength in technology shares helped offset pressure from higher oil prices and foreign fund outflows. Trent led the advance, jumping 5.2% after the company reported a 25% rise in net profit and wider margins on the back of stronger sales. IndiGo climbed 4.6% even though India’s largest airline posted a third consecutive quarterly loss, with robust revenue growth and higher fares helping to cushion the impact of rising costs.

Sun Pharma gained more than 2%, rising for a fourth straight session, after receiving US FDA approval for ILUMYA to treat adults with active psoriatic arthritis, despite a decline in its second-quarter profit. Infosys (up 3.4%), Tech Mahindra (up 1.2%) and HCL Tech (up 1.2%) also advanced, defying the broader global tech trend as concerns around AI drove increased demand for outsourcing and automation services. For the week, the benchmark Sensex added 1.8%, while on a monthly basis it rose 2.7%.
