Turkey Trade Deficit Narrows in October

Turkey’s trade deficit narrowed to $6.7 billion in October 2026 from $7.6 billion a year earlier, according to preliminary data. However, it was still the largest shortfall in three months.

Exports increased 8.1% year-on-year to $25.9 billion, driven by higher sales of raw materials ($13.4 billion), consumer goods ($8.4 billion), and capital goods ($3.9 billion). By destination, exports rose most notably to Germany ($2.7 billion), the United States ($1.9 billion), and the United Kingdom ($1.4 billion).

Imports grew 3.4% to $32.6 billion, their highest level in three months, mainly due to increased purchases of intermediate goods, which reached $23.4 billion. In contrast, imports of capital goods fell 13% to $4.4 billion. China remained the largest supplier, with exports to Turkey totaling $4.4 billion.

Over the January–October period, the trade deficit widened to $77.7 billion from $74.7 billion in the same period a year earlier, as exports rose 5.5% and imports increased 5.1%.
