Hong Kong Stocks Climb as Tech and Healthcare Shares Rally

The Hang Seng Index climbed 1.2%, or 290 points, to around 23,820 on Wednesday, rebounding from early-session losses as strength in technology and healthcare stocks lifted overall sentiment. Confidence was underpinned by signs of improving economic activity, with Hong Kong’s private sector returning to expansion in October: the S&P Global PMI rose to 50.2 from 49.2 in September, its highest reading in three months.

Chinese technology shares further bolstered risk appetite. JPMorgan expressed optimism about the outlook for domestic AI models, while Citi pointed to resilient demand for semiconductor equipment. Investors also tracked developments in China’s AI sector, including SenseTime’s unveiling of its latest SenseNova model.

Among individual movers, Semiconductor Manufacturing International rose 7.27%, Z.AI gained 6.33%, Lenovo advanced 5.39% and MiniMax added 4.88%. In the healthcare and related segments, Kingboard Laminates jumped 9.02%, Wuxi Biologics surged 10.68% and Genscript climbed 8.01%.
