Pikachu is the character of the Pokemon anime and a number of games. The Japanese are nuts over it. Being the official mascot of the franchise, the character is quite popular.

In the last few years, Pikachu has become an iconic character in the Japanese pop culture; it is believed to be the Japanese replica of the US Mickey Mouse.

In a far 1999, the Time listed Pikachu among the Year's Best Persons. It got the second place, just after Hello Kitty.

In 2003, the Forbes listed Pikachu the eight among the most profitable projects. The creators of this character earned $825 million.

The festival attracts thousands of tourists to Yokohama, the authorities of which reckon on welcoming them.
