Joe Biden selects Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate for the upcoming US presidential election.

For the first time in American history, a black woman was elected to be the running vice president for the Democratic Party.

On Tuesday, presidential candidate Joe Biden selected Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate for the upcoming US presidential election.

Such is a well-suited decision in opposing the Republican President Donald Trump.

Biden, whose campaign was rescued by black voters in February, did not give up his support to blacks in the fight against Trump. In states such as Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, this will be critical.

In addition, since Biden will turn 78 in November, he said that if he wins, he will most likely serve only one term, which makes Senator Harris a potential presidential contender in 2024.

However, although Harris is popular for her aggressive communication style, several of Biden's allies were concerned that she is not fit for the job, doubting her loyalty in particular.

Nonetheless, following the death of Floyd, a US. citizen who died on May 25, 2020 in a conflict with the police, Harris has become a prominent voice in the pursuit of racial justice and police reform, supporting marches and sparring with Republicans in the US Senate on law reform.

Unfortunately, Harris has been criticized by some people in the black community that as California's attorney general, she has not done enough investigations and has too often sided with prosecutors in wrongful conviction cases.

The daughter of an Indian mother and a Jamaican father, Harris has overcome obstacles throughout her career. She was the first woman to serve as a San Francisco district attorney to the position in 2003, and the first female California attorney general to be elected to the position in 2010.

In addition to Harris, Biden considered several black women, including former Obama administration national security adviser Susan Rice, Atlanta Mayor Keishu Lance Bottoms, and US Representative Vala Demings, a former police chief in Orlando, Florida. Biden also considered Asian-American Senator Tammy Duckworth and New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham to be Hispanic.

Brian Brokaw, the California-based political consultant who directed Harris' campaigns, said that Harris was well suited for the role.
