New communication standard and horror story in one bottle

Fifth-generation 5G wireless communication is the next step in the development of this technology after 3G and 4G operating in the world. This new communication standard allows you to transmit data at high speed and with minimal latency. In case of full-scale implementation of this technology, users will be able to download their favorite movies and TV shows in excellent quality in seconds. It is expected that the entertainment industry, telecommunications, medicine, and transport will rise more than one step higher in terms of quality and speed of service. The widespread use of this technology promises to significantly improve the quality of services, and therefore life itself. A large number of technologies and communications companies are involved in the process of deploying new networks and creating new special equipment. These companies include Huawei, Nokia, Qualcomm, Nvidia, Intel, Vodafone, China Mobile, Verizon, and many others.

The introduction of new technology can be called a real global transition to a new level of digitalization of society. However, this kind of trend causes concern among the population. Many people readily believe the theory that the 5G network weakens the immune system of a person who lives nearby with a tower installed. One part of people blame the new technology for the accelerated rate of spread of the coronavirus. Others do not believe in the danger of COVID-19 and claim that the damage to health is caused not by the virus, but by this new network.

From making their assumptions, some move on to action. This spring, a group of people in the UK set fire to telecommunications towers designed to broadcast 5G. In total, at least 77 infrastructure facilities were affected.

In general, 5G wireless communication began to enjoy negative fame long before the pandemic. At a time when mobile phones were just beginning to be introduced, there was already talk about the dangers of the new technology for human health. In subsequent hearings about the dangers of this kind of network gradually disappeared. However, today, when humanity is on the threshold of mass use of 5G, some of the theories of those years have been revived again.

Some researchers in the field of medicine, who broadcast to the masses the idea that 5G contributes to the development of cancer, infertility, autism, heart disease, and even Alzheimer's disease added fuel to the fire. But these theories do not yet have official scientific evidence.

In 2018, there was a case in the Netherlands that was picked up and replicated by those who do not accept the transition of humanity to the sphere of global digitalization – the mysterious mass death of starlings in the West of the country. Mysticism is added by the fact that there was no clear explanation for why dozens of birds died. The public blamed this on tests of 5G networks that were conducted near this place. The government of the Netherlands, of course, refuted this kind of theory, saying that no communication tests were conducted in the area of mass bird deaths.

Hollywood actor John Cusack joined the ranks of the part of the population that does not accept the new standard of communication. He wrote on his Twitter account that 5G clearly affects the living organism and soon this influence will be proved. It is noteworthy that this tweet was later deleted from the social network. This spring, the popular singer MIA. also wrote that 5G technology may well affect the recovery processes of the human body and suggested that the towers of the new network could be turned off before the end of the pandemic.

It is worth noting that local networks of the fifth generation have already been implemented in countries such as the United States, Switzerland, China, and South Korea. In Russia, Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) was the first company to receive a license to create a 5G network. It is expected that the first users will be large enterprises and businesses. For example, oil and gas companies will be able to use the new link to monitor their pipelines and other infrastructure facilities using drones. Industrial enterprises will use 5G to manage equipment.

Overall, the global market for consumer services based on 5G networks could reach $31 trillion by 2030. Analysts predict that due to the active promotion of a variety of use cases for this new technology, operators can earn approximately $131 billion by 2030 on digital services alone. At the same time, 40% of this amount is spent by subscribers on 5G services using video. It is assumed that most of the user spending by 2030 will be related to the effect of augmented reality, games, shopping, and various educational programs.

It is becoming increasingly clear that in the next ten years, 5G technologies will give operators tremendous opportunities in the consumer services market. Those operators that react quickly and review their offers for users will benefit the most. Early formation of consumer demand for 5G services can ensure an increase in the average monthly revenue per subscriber by 34%.
