Trade Analysis and Trading Advice for the British Pound
The test of 1.3247 occurred when the MACD indicator had just begun moving upward from the zero line, confirming that the entry point for buying the pound was appropriate. As a result, the pair rose by 10 points, but a more substantial upward move failed to materialize.
The UK economic calendar was too empty to provide support for the pound. Buyers attempted to push GBP/USD higher but failed to receive sufficient support from major market participants and quickly stepped aside. Sellers, by contrast, were ready to act. They considered the price attractive enough and did not wait for better levels. I believe the main takeaway is straightforward: without strong economic data or significant statements, the market is reluctant to trust an upward move, and any attempt to strengthen the pound is viewed as an opportunity to take profits or open short positions.
The second half of the day is expected to be quiet for the pound. US markets are closed for Columbus Day, there are no economic data releases, and the main event will be a speech by FOMC member Beth M. Hammack. In the morning, the market awaited comments from Sarah Breeden and Catherine L. Mann. Against this backdrop, it will be important to see whether GBP/USD attempts to react to their remarks without the participation of US investors. In my view, there is little reason to expect significant changes. The US dollar's advance stalled on Friday following the University of Michigan data, but US inflation expectations remain high, continuing to support the currency. I expect the pound to trade within a narrow range, with the dollar's leading position unlikely to be challenged.
As for the intraday strategy, I will focus primarily on implementing Scenarios No. 1 and No. 2.

Buy Signal
Scenario No. 1: Today, I plan to buy the pound when the price reaches the entry level around 1.3242 (the green line on the chart), targeting a rise to 1.3270 (the thicker green line on the chart). Near 1.3270, I plan to close the long position and open a short position, targeting a move of 30–35 points in the opposite direction from that level. Any advance in the pound today is likely to remain within the current trading channel. Important: Before buying, make sure that the MACD indicator is above the zero line and has only just begun moving upward from it.
Scenario No. 2: I also plan to buy the pound today if the price tests 1.3230 twice consecutively while the MACD indicator is in oversold territory. This would limit the pair's downward potential and trigger an upward reversal. A rise toward the next levels of 1.3242 and 1.3270 can then be expected.
Sell Signal
Scenario No. 1: Today, I plan to sell the pound after the price breaks below 1.3220 (the red line on the chart), which could trigger a rapid decline in the pair. The sellers' main target will be 1.3207, where I plan to close the short position and immediately open a long position, targeting a move of 20–25 points in the opposite direction from that level. Strong selling pressure on the pound could return at any time. Important: Before selling, make sure that the MACD indicator is below the zero line and has only just begun moving downward from it.
Scenario No. 2: I also plan to sell the pound today if the price tests 1.3242 twice consecutively while the MACD indicator is in overbought territory. This would limit the pair's upward potential and trigger a downward reversal. A decline toward the next levels of 1.3230 and 1.3207 can then be expected.

What the Chart Shows
- Thin green line — the entry price at which the trading instrument can be bought.
- Thick green line — the estimated price level at which a Take Profit order can be placed or profits can be taken manually, as further gains above this level are considered unlikely.
- Thin red line — the entry price at which the trading instrument can be sold.
- Thick red line — the estimated price level at which a Take Profit order can be placed or profits can be taken manually, as further declines below this level are considered unlikely.
- MACD indicator — when entering the market, it is important to consider overbought and oversold conditions.
Important: Beginner Forex traders should exercise great caution when making entry decisions. Before the release of major fundamental reports, it is generally best to stay out of the market to avoid sudden exchange-rate fluctuations. If you decide to trade during news releases, always place stop-loss orders to minimize losses. Without stop-loss orders, you can quickly lose your entire trading deposit, especially if you do not use proper money management and trade with large position sizes.
Remember that successful trading requires a clear trading plan, such as the one outlined above. Making spontaneous trading decisions based on current market conditions is a fundamentally flawed strategy for an intraday trader.
