FX.co ★ Russia allows Norwegian fish fry imports

Russia’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed ban exemption for Norwegian salmon fry up to October 1, 2014. The decree was posted on the official website of the government.
Medvedev instructed the FSB, the Customs Service, Rosselkhoznadzor, and Rospotrebnadzor to implement border, customs, veterinary, quarantine and phytosanitary control of the eleven Norwegian vessels.
On August 7, Russia announced a full embargo on import of meat, fruits and vegetables, seafood and chilled fish, milk and dairy products from the EU, US, Norway, Canada, and Australia. The import ban was introduced in response to US and EU sanctions on Moscow amid the crisis in Ukraine.
On August 13, Russia’s authorities said they plan to allow import of fry fish for the country’s breeding facilities. The Fishery Union representative Konstantin Leonov said that the Russian companies will not be able to breed salmon without fry. The union informed the government about the necessity of making a prompt decision.
On August 20, the list of banned products was added with live fish and excluded salmon and trout fry, lactose-free milk and dairy products, seed potatoes, sweet corn, peas, dietary supplements, and vitamins.
