HP Russia fined $108 million to settle bribery case

A California court in the US ruled that HP Russia, a subsidiary of the Hewlett-Packard Company, must pay a $58.7 million fine for bribing Russian government officials. The company wanted to secure a large contract with the Office of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, estimated at $45 million.
Moreover, Hewlett-Packard agreed to pay the fine to resolve allegations that its subsidiaries bribed officials in Poland and Mexico to win business contracts.
According to USA Today, the total amount of fines will come in at $108 million.
Federal officials said the bribes totaled $1.4 million in Mexico, $2 million in Russia, and $600,000 in Poland.
