Head of the Ministry of Natural Resources Sergei Donskoy did not find a better use of his abilities and offered to study the issue of creating a single operator for fur exports. Apparently, according to Donskoy, this is the most urgent issue for the country now. Officials are confident that only the creation of a unified sable exchange will lead Russia to the leading position in the global economy. The Ministry of Nature believes that it is necessary to change the export scheme for valuable fur and control circulation and production of fur-bearing animals. "We need to minimize the illegal trafficking of sable. If we do not prevent the black market sales today, then very soon Russia may lose the monopoly on the production of this valuable fur", said the minister.
According to an official report, over the past 10 years, sales of sable skins exceeded the limit of production doubly. Inspectors note that during the hunting season of 2012-2013, 200,000 sables were shot legally with the limit of about 400,000. At the same time, the volume of sable fur sales at auctions (mainly for exports) was 700,000 a year. The difference is obvious. The fur produced illegally is sold through the official auctions that inevitably leads to a reduction in producer prices thus negatively affecting legal producers. There will also be new rules for sable turnover, including the plan to declare fur items. "Sable should be included in the list of the most valuable species of wild animals. It will allow us to set a serious criminal responsibility for illegal exports of animals and furs", the minister said.
