Visa earnings beat estimates as consumer spending remains robust

Visa Inc., the world’s largest payments network, reported fourth‑quarter results that beat Wall Street consensus as consumers around the globe continued to swipe for travel, everyday purchases, and restaurant bills despite macroeconomic headwinds and persistent inflation, Reuters says.

On an adjusted basis, earnings for the three months ended September 30 came in at $3.48 per share versus $3.44 expected. Total payment volumes on the Visa network rose by 9% in constant currency, while the number of processed transactions increased by 10%. The company’s global infrastructure, spanning more than 200 countries and territories, has shown strong resilience against local economic slowdowns thanks to steady demand for cashless payments from billions of users.

At the same time, spending on client incentives and partner rewards jumped by 21% year‑on‑year to $5.1 billion. Management said the rise reflected large contract signings in July‑September and at the start of the fourth quarter. Despite the healthy underlying metrics, Visa shares slipped by about 1.5% in premarket trading as investors locked in profits. Year-to-date, the stock has gained more than 14.6%.
