FX.co ★ Toyota outpaces Volkswagen in sales

Global sales of Japan’s carmaker Toyota Motor Corp. surged 2.8% from January until September 2014. So, Toyota sales for the first nine months of 2014 amounted to 7.6 million vehicles including such divisions as Hino Motors Ltd. and Daihatsu Motor Co., according to Dion Corbett, a spokesperson at Toyota.
Germany’s Volkswagen AG competing with Toyota for the status of the world’s largest car manufacturer sold 7.4 million cars for the same period excluding its facilities producing trucks.
“It is an amazing competition. Companies are searching for opportunities to expand in various regions of the world,” James Chao, the director of Shanghai-based IHS Automotive, highlighted. “We are watching that Toyota is rapidly advancing on the U.S. market, while the major booster for Volkswagen sales is the market in China,“ he added.
