Trust in national and governmental EU institutions lost

The President of the European Parliament found the reasons that led to a lack of trust in the political institutions. As per his opinion, the EU is suffering from an image problem. “Obviously the EU has an image problem and we have a shared responsibility for this,” said the President of the EU Martin Schulz. “Toxic climate of euroskepticism” became a heavy heritage of the period, due to the fact that politicians attempted to shift the blame for the economic crisis. The spokesmen and public officials played “the blame game” and no one took the responsibility, finally the EU citizens denied to trust the government. The skepticism is permeated among the UK, France, Germany, Spain and Greece. Besides, the “lost generation” of unemployed young people negatively affects the EU image. The data of a public sentiment study for the European Council in 2013, proves Schulz' opinion. The trust level fell from +10 to -22 in France, from +20 to +29 in Germany, the same tendency is observed in Italy, Spain, Poland and other countries. The EU President blames the politicians for saying the success is national but the failure is the European bureaucracy. Under these circumstances, it is not surprising that the UK enthusiasm to leave the EU is widely discussed in the country. The UK Prime Minister David Cameron proposed for several times in or out referendum on British membership in the EU in 2017. Moreover, the EU membership is a key tenet of his re-election campaign in the Parliament elections in May 2015.
