Germany’s business calls for free trade with Russia

President of the Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations in Germany Eckhard Cordes declared that a free trade zone between the European Union and Russia would make sense from the viewpoint of economic policies.
He appreciated Berlin’s intention of cooperating with the Russian economy in his interview to North German Broadcasting Radio, especially in the background of the ongoing political crisis.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive of the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) Martin Wansleben told the Passauer Neuen Presse newspaper that the crisis in Ukraine could be resolved thanks to negotiations of a possible free trade zone between the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).
At the same time, German Economy Minister Sigmar Gabriel took Angela Merkel’s side in a discussion on the possible free trade zone between the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).
"I’m glad that the chancellor took the initiative in this question”, the minister told Tagesspiegel.
However, the minister noted that a free trade zone can be created only on condition that the Ukrainian crisis would be settled, reported Deutsche Welle.
