In June, the US Treasury Department announced its decision to put a woman’s portrait on the $10 bill. Mrs. Clinton supported the idea; however, another controversy was incited by the Treasury Department’s plans to keep a smaller image of Alexander Hamilton on these bills.
New banknotes will be unveiled in 2020 in honor of the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which recognized women’s right to vote. Martha Washington, the wife of the first US president George Washington, was the first woman whose portrait appeared on $1 silver certificates in the late 1800s.
