
On Saturday, February 2, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin signed a decree designating Sochi as a venue for the G8 summit in 2014.
“In connection with Russia's G8 presidency in 2014, I have resolved to make the city of Sochi the venue for the 2014 G8 meeting of the heads of state and Government,” said Mr Putin in the decree. The document was posted on the Kremlin official website.
By the same decree, Putin appointed Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergey Ivanov as chairman of the organizational committee on preparation for Russia’s G8 presidency. Mr Putin dismissed Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin from this post.
