Meat fraud has been one of the hottest topics under discussion for a month already.
The horsemeat scandal flared up in January, when frozen horsemeat was found to be sold as beef in the United Kingdom. The findings put meat products under scrutiny. As a result of investigation, horsemeat instead of beef was detected in 13 European countries.
Glaring cases of meat fraud was registered in Northern Ireland and England, where school meals and hospital food contains horsemeat.
The number of horsemeat contamination cases is increasing; however no European nation is ready to take on responsibility for the affair. Investigations revealed that Romanian abattoirs concerned are not guilty. Since horsemeat is not dangerous for humans, there is a version that products were simply mislabelled.
Nevertheless, the EU tests of 29 out of 2,501 samples in England proved to be positive, which is approximately 1% of all the meat products.
