Last Tuesday the Senate of France approved a bill allowing same-sex marriages. The bill grants homosexual couples the right to legalize their relationships. There is also going to be the second article of the bill, which will be concentrated on adoption.
179 senators said their “I do” to the bill, while 157 voted against it.
Citizens of France are also not unanimous in their opinions about the new law. About 60% of French nationals are supportive of same-sex marriages; the rest finds this idea unacceptable. The bill provoked a vehement wave of protests and supportive campaigns rampaging across the entire country. Tens of thousands people took part in massive demonstrations.
By the way, a bill enabling homosexual couples to wed and adopt was part of Francois Hollande’s election campaign. Now France is among six European countries where same-sex marriages are about to become legal. The other five nations are Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands, Spain, and Belgium.
