According to the information portal News-Asia, China is expanding into new territories and bringing under its control the part of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Province of Tajikistan. That is not a result of a military operation. The territory was ceded in compliance with the international rights. Under the agreement on external debt, Dushanbe passed the Chinese People's Republic 1.5 thousands square kilometers of the disputed areas. On May 6, the troops of China were sent there. The high mountain lands, that are not suitable for living but attractive for its natural resources, is the next China’s goal.
Such a state of affairs was predicted at the very beginning of the year, but nobody took that seriously. Today this Tajikistan territory is being occupied by the military and civil representatives, who are going to start geological exploration. The country's authorities formally adopted the amendment to the law on subsoil that allows the foreigners to carry out the mining works.
The significant China’s influence on Tajikistan is enhancing. The PRC is interested in expanding its territory and extracting minerals. Preliminary data show that this area is rich in precious stones, uranium, and minerals. To date, the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Province is under the control of the Chinese army. In accordance with the government documents, the ethnic Tajiks have to leave this territory, but they do not want to surrender. There is a possibility of a military conflict, but the experts say that Beijing would not probably let this happen and would bring this issue to the negotiating table.
