The bidding on the valuable musical instrument organized by the Julien's Auctions has ended up the other day. Semi-hollow-body guitar manufactured by VOX company was made to order of a special customer, who was one of the “Beatles” John Lennon.
The custom-made electric guitar was noticed not just at the legendary Fab Four's concerts, but also in a film named Magical Mystery Tour (1967), where it was played by George Harrison. Lennon used it in a video for a song "Hello, Goodbye" in November 1967. On May 2, 1967 Lennon gifted the instrument to his close friend Alexis Mardas with a plaque on the back reading: “To Magic Alex/ Alexi thank you/ for been [sic] a friend/ 2-5-1967 John." Mardas possessed the personalized guitar till 2004, when he sold it. Ten years later it was put up for the auction again.
The pre-auction estimate was between $200,000 and $300,000. But the bidding did not stop at those prices, and the Lennon's guitar was sold at New York auction for $408,000. The Julien's Auctions gave the buyer a right to stay anonymous.
