It is planned to destroy a few tens of millions of entirely new Benjamins just out of a printing machine of the U.S. Mint. A printing operation error ruled the fate of a vast number of cash notes totaling $3 billion. The whole edition of the cash notes was found unusable. As a result of overrunning the required quantity of ink, microprint lines turned out to be covered by a too thick layer. So, one of the properties identifying a banknote was lost. Such negligence prompted the Federal Reserve System officers to carry out the inspection of the remaining batches of the new cash notes that were scheduled for circulation starting in 2011. New $100 notes have a range of vital differences as compared to their predecessors. Following the recent worldwide trends, the country’s leadership gave the highest priority to the paper currency authenticity, designing and adopting additional security features against counterfeit bank notes. Now to the right of legendary politician Benjamin Franklin, it is supposed to place an image of a liberty bell inside an inkwell that changes from copper to green when tilted. This will be one of the key changes in the design concept. The redesigned banknote also has an effect which makes the bell seem to appear and disappear within the inkwell at a certain angle when tilted. Besides, the Independence Hall building shown from the main entrance will be displayed from a different side. From now on, the bank bill will be showing the back side of the building where the Declaration of Independence was countersigned; the Franklin’s portrait was enlarged; the vignette around it was removed.
