From the very beginning, bitcoin’s appearance has rested on one big mystery: the identity of bitcoin’s creator Satoshi Nakamoto. Even today, disputes over his identity keep on going. Many people are searching for the person behind the mystery. Therefore, every known detail about Satoshi Nakamoto is questioned e.g. his supposedly fake identity and even the authorship of the bitcoin white paper. Scott Stornetta, one of the founding fathers of blockchain technology, provides his own theory about bitcoin’s creator.
According to Stornetta, Satoshi Nakamoto can be a fake identity. The cryptanalyst argues that this name is more likely a pseudonym used by one person rather than a group of people. He also stresses that no extensive knowledge in many disciplines was required to create bitcoin. Scott Stornetta believes that it was enough to follow the ideas of the movement of cipher banks in order to come up with the idea of BTC.
Stornetta expressed his ideas on the identity of bitcoin’s creator in a document published in 1991. "The arguments about team work come down to the fact that it was necessary to understand not only cryptography, but also to have knowledge in programming, economics, mathematics, monetary policy, etc. But frankly, I see him as a software developer who monitored the distribution of cipher banks," he said. The cryptanalyst also added that despite the Japanese name, Satoshi Nakamoto lived in the Eastern part of the United States. His theory was based on the time of sending emails to the creator of bitcoin.
What is more, Stornetta was sure that Satoshi Nakamoto was not an experienced specialist in the field of cryptography. The cryptanalyst highly assessed the ability of S. Nakamoto to collect all the ideas in the digital sphere and bring to life the dream of many crypto enthusiasts. “I am of the camp that believes that what was done with Bitcoin was surely a work of genius. But it's more like a work of art, a work of engineering art that opens the door to a whole series of possibilities but is in no sense the final or best solution that can be built," he said.
