Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision (Rosselhoznadzor) stands guard over the health of Russian people. No bacterium will pass by the powerful microscopes and the quick eyes of the federal service. This time, “illegal immigrants” tried to cross the Russian-Belarusian border in a consignment of meat products, where they have been found by the supervisory body. The illegal border crossers that have been detained are Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli bacteria, mesophilic aerobic, and facultative anaerobic microorganisms. Some of them have been caught not for the first time. Salami and some other types of sausages were used as a cover by the breakers. Rosselhoznadzor rapidly, as it should be, informed Belarus's veterinary service about the revealed violations. Now the Belarusian colleagues should determine the set of measures to be taken. Recently, amid the risk of African plague infection, the Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight Service has temporarily restricted shipments of pigs and their genetic material as well as swine products and feedstuff without heat treatment from Belarus. Some foreign relations experts consider these complaints a part of the dispute on Uralkali between Moscow and Minsk. Vladimir Putin and Aleksander Lukashenko discussed this matter at a CSTO summit.
