A $2 million check was found on the Madrid Metro. Over complaints about doors that did not close fully, the train was rerouted to the maintenance yard. While inspecting it, a maintenance worker determined the cause of misoperation - a wallet containing the $2 million check stuffed inside. Some credit cards and California driver’s license accompanied the check issued by the Bank of America. According to the preliminary data, the wallet was stolen on the Metro. After that, the thief grabbed all the money, but got rid of other contents including the check. The spokesman announced that the Spanish police have identified the wallet’s owner and will contact him as soon as possible. The law enforcement agents are going to ascertain where such money came from and whether the check is legal. The Madrid Metro serves an average of 2 million passengers a day, but probably it was for the first time when one of the latter was carrying a millions check. The Spanish officials also will inquire why the millionaire was riding a subway, not a chauffeured car. Police have already contacted the U.S. Embassy in Madrid for help in identifying the check’s owner.
