In order to save the money allocated for allowances of the retired people in Switzerland, Ives Nidegger from the Swiss People's Party introduced an initiative. According to it, it was suggested to send elderly people outside the country, specifically to Morocco. The politician calculated that it would be cheaper for the government to provide the elderly people with the place of residence in the underdeveloped countries. Thus, the government may spend less money on allowances. Nidegger has already found the area for the residence; it is Tan-tan, south-western Morocco. According to the plan, in a couple of years, the city can be home for several thousands of elderly people. The allowances which are regularly paid by the government plus retirement benefit should allow the pensioners to live in style. Resettlement programme is designed to create new workplaces for Moroccans. The politician is sure that the elderly people would be pleased with such measures and would prefer living in the warm and cheap country, instead of “miserable living” in Switzerland. On the contrary, pensioners are not eager to follow Nidegger’s plan. According to the polls, the majority of elderly people, 91%, do not want to leave the native country; 66% would prefer to live in a village, instead of Africa. The idea to move the pensioners to the well-organized centers abroad has already been used in Europe. For example, a lot of German elderly people reside in Hungary and Slovakia, where the medical health care is cheaper than in Germany. However, the decision to move is taken by the relatives or the pensioners are forced to change the location under the pressure of financial problems.
