Eurozone approves new head of European Central Bank

The Finance ministers of eurozone approved the nominee for the position of ECB head Mario Draghi, Bloomberg informs, referring to the remark of Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker.
The candidature of Draghi will be considered by the EU Finance ministers later today. After that it will be passed to the Parliament for the final decision to be delivered.
The Italian banker was already supported by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French president Nicolas Sarkozy and Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. Draghi had been head of Italian Finance Ministry for 10 years since 2001. He carried out one third of the reforms which contributed to reduction of the state debt and its entering the EU. Then Draghi worked as Goldman Sachs Vice President for three years. Since 2006 he has been the director of the Bank of Italy. The European Central Bank is functioning as the major EU and eurozone bank. The ECB staff comprises all EU countries representatives. The powers of the present bank head Jean-Claude Trichet who has been in office since 2003 expire in October this year.
