
As of 2013, Android tablets sales soared 127% posting almost 121 million units, research firm Gartner says.
Last year, Android-based tablets accounted for a 61.9% share of the global market. According to the research, the tablets whipped up the consumers’ interests due to the lower price of the gadget.
Apple’s iOS tablets held 36% on the market, so the overall market’s slice of the Cupertino-based company slid by 16.8%. iPad sales moved up only 14.5% to 70.4 million units. In 2013, the tablets vendors sold together 195.4 million units, which is 68% more than in 2012. The whole industry grew by 145%, while it advanced by 31% in the emerging markets.
As of 2012, Apple was on top of the world in terms of tablet sales. Over that period of time, the giant retailed 61 million units having a 53% share of the world market. Meanwhile, its runner-up Android sold 53 million gaining a 46% slice of the global cake.
