Blue Origin faces limited supply, CEO says

Jeff Bezos' space company Blue Origin is facing limited supply, CEO Bob Smith said.

The brainchild of Jeff Bezos has been up against a wall due to supply chain issues. “I think the challenge for Blue at this point is that we’re actually supply limited,” the CEO emphasized. Nevertheless, Mr. Bezos does not give up and plans to build more New Shepard rockets to meet ‘robust demand’ for space tourism.

There were “thousands of people in the auction process”, according to Smith. All of them wanted a seat on New Shepard's first flight. Last year, Blue Origin launched three crewed missions with 14 space tourists on board and one cargo research flight. Smith expects the number of missions to double in 2022.

Blue Origin is planning to launch New Shepard from its private facility in the Texas desert to an altitude of above 100 kilometers. The company currently has two operational rocket boosters, one for research cargo flights and the other for passenger flights.
