Fuel thefts rise amid soaring gasoline prices in UK

Rising gasoline prices in the UK led to increased fuel thefts from gas stations. On average, there were at least three attempts at each pump. The Guardian reports that according to the official data, the number of gasoline thefts per day at gas stations may reach 3,000 across the country. Many motorists drive off without paying for fuel or claim to have forgotten their wallets at home. According to the British Oil Security Syndicate (BOSS), cases of unpaid fuel increased by 22% in early June compared to the same period in May. The newspaper said that the cost of filling a typical family car exceeded £100. On June 9, the average price of gasoline increased to 183 pence per liter. In the US, gasoline prices were reported to hit an all-time high, surpassing $5 per gallon for the first time in history.
