Egypt imposes tourist tax

From June 1, 2014 tourists travelling to Egypt have to pay a so-called development tax of $7. Daily News Egypt previously reported that the tax is applied for tourists arriving in airports of Alexandria, South Sinai, Hurghada, Luxor and Aswan. According to Adala Ragab, economic advisor to the Ministry of Tourism, travelers who arrive in Marsa Alam International Airport will not have to pay the fee in the coming six months.
The Ministry of Tourism said 1.3 million tourists visited Egypt from January to February 2014 that is 28% down from the same period a year ago.
