Apple becomes target of patent infringement lawsuit

Sonrai Memory has accused Apple of infringing on two of its patents, Apple Insider reported. The alleged infringement involved technology used in MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iPhone 6, and iPad 5, as well as Apple’s other smartphones and tablets.

The company filed a lawsuit against Apple at the US District Court for the Western District of Texas on July 15. According to the filing, Apple allegedly violated patent 6,874,014 from 2005, titled “Chip multiprocessor with multiple operating systems”. The other patent, which was granted in 2004, is titled “Variable charge pump circuit with dynamic load”. Sonrai Memory demanded the corporation pay damages and cover its legal fees.

However, Apple Insider noted that Sonrai Memory could likely be a so-called “patent troll” – a firm that actively buys and sells patent rights to sue other companies. Sonrai Memory, which is yet to release any actual products, earlier filed lawsuits against such companies as Hewlett-Packard, Western Digital, Google, Samsung, LG, Lenovo, and others.
